Stadtlanders in Senegal

WELCA Sponsored
Food Pantry
Donations are taken throughout the year for the local Food Pantry.
Fleece Blanket Drive
Blankets are made by members and then donated to Blank Children's Hospital.
Silent Auction & Bake Sale
Proceeds go to many different organizations locally such as Ruth Harbor Home for unwed mothers, LSI, Beloit Children's Home, Grimes Food Pantry, Luther Seminary, and more.
Giving Tree
Christmas gifts are shared with needy families in Grimes. The families submit their requests, ornaments are made for each request, members take the ornament(s) and purchase the item(s), return wrapped gift(s) to church to be delivered to families before Christmas.
Mitten Tree
Gloves, mittens, hats, and scarves are collected to be shared with homeless shelters.
Fall & Spring Clothing Drive
Gently used clothes are collected and shared with those in need. The clothes are usually taken to the Clothes Closet at Capital Hill Lutheran in Des Moines.
World Vision
WELCA sponsors a child through World Vision. Her name is Ramya and she is from India. She is sent gifts at special times each year and write to her. She has been sponsored for about 3 years now.
Carmen Supper Club
Share a meal on the third Thursday of each month. Members sign up to make various food items for this event!
Senior Citizen Luncheons
Meals are served to seniors in the Grimes area on the 4th Thursday of each month.
Crop Walk
Church members and neighbors walking together to help fight world hunger. More info here.
Race for the Cure
2008 was the first year we participated in the Race for the Cure. It was a great success! More info here.
Shop for the Cure
Vendors set up at the church and sell their merchandise on a Saturday before the holidays to help raise money for research for juvenile diabetes. We have held this event at St. Peter for about 4 years now. This event is open to the community.
Hope Tree
During Advent we decorate the Hope Tree with bows. Each bow is purchased and donated by church members at $5 per bow with the proceeds going to a mission project. Last year the money raise went to Church World Services for their Tools & Blankets Program. We were able to raise $565.00 for this program. This advent we are going to raise the money to share with our sister parish in Tanzania - Myamba Parish. Our mission trip participants will purchase food staples to be shared with our sister congregation.
