Myamba Scholarship Program
Pledge Your Support Now!
by Sonja G
Now is the hour! The timing has changed this year for St. Peter’s promotion of our secondary school scholarship program for needy students of our Tanzanian companion, Myamba Lutheran Parish. We are now offering sponsorship and donation opportunities to St. Peter members and friends to coincide with the start of our school year. For the 2017 school year, St. Peter‘s program has provided 69 secondary school scholarships; our goal is to at least maintain that level of sponsorship for 2018. Stop by the Myamba table in fellowship hall to learn more and show your support.
Scholarship costs hold steady for 2018! The cost to sponsor one student for one year of secondary school is still just $115. The cost to sponsor a student for all four years of their secondary school is $460. Costs cover a school uniform including shoes, books and supplies, and a hot lunch. The cost to provide a scholarship student with a Swahili Bible, school notebook, pen, pencil and eraser is $10. Those unable to make a pledge can still make a donation; donations will be added together to create a new scholarship when they total $460. Pledge and donation cards are available on the Myamba table in fellowship hall. Checks may be payable to St. Peter with “Myamba Scholarship” noted on the check.
Letters; we’ve got letters! And pictures! Most of this year’s scholarship students have sent us letters, telling about themselves, their families and their dreams for the future. Their pictures, taken in January when the mission team visited their schools, are placed with the letters contained in two binders for you to view at the Myamba table. It’s great to read of their gratitude for our support and see their picture, too!
