Join the Hunger Fight
5th Grimes Community Hunger Fight
by Sonja G
Join the Grimes Community Hunger Fight Saturday, February 11 at the Grimes United Methodist Church to work with Meals from the Heartland to package macaroni and cheese meals. The meals will be distributed locally through a program called Unite2Feed, which joins forces of Meals from the Heartland, The Food Bank of Iowa and DMARC. The macaroni and cheese meal bags will be paired with ingredients provided by the other agencies. All the food items can be combined to make a chili mac recipe popular among food pantry recipients. View and download a poster of the event here.
The Grimes Community Hunger Fight’s goal is to package 60,000 meals. If accomplished, the community will have packaged more than 250,000 meals in 5 years! It will take $12,000 to package 60,000 meals and all donations are welcome. You can get involved by:
- Volunteering for a shift. Sign up here.
- Commit to donating toward the cost of ingredients here. Checks can be made to Meals from the Heartland (memo line “Grimes Hunger Fight) and mailed to Meals from the Heartland, 357 Lincoln Street, West Des Moines, IA 50265 or bring them the day of the event.
